The Scent of Love

Good day Beloved, wow, another week gone by already. Recently the 6 month mark of my Dolly’s passing happened. I don’t even know how I am supposed to feel.

I was thinking about the pre-marriage counseling we went through before we made things legal in the eyes of the state. Any way, the person leading the group said that couples needed to be mindful of each other on a regular basis. Like a bonsai, marriage requires tending to if it is going to last more than a season. One thing that stuck with me from the counseling was the idea of making time to hug each other and breathe in your Beloveds scent every day. I know it sounds kinda funny but it really works. You get a scent in your brain and it stays with you.

One of our cats would spend hours nuzzling in my Dolly’s neck. Now when that cat comes to me, I breathe in her scent because that is what my Dolly’s neck smelled like the last few years of her life. I know this seems weird but it works for me. I hope you have someone who you can breathe in and take with you through your days. This isn’t always easy to do by any means but if you value the relationship it might just be worth a try.

Scents can stir up all kinds of memories and feelings. Before I got married the smell of baking bread was the scent of love to me because my mother would always bake when I was growing up. I would walk into the house after school and smell fresh bread. Man, that smell was one of the best things in my childhood. That smell meant mommas love.

What is your scent of love? A specific perfume or maybe your favorite food from your younger days. The smell of a spring day after the rain. There are lots of possibilities. I hope you can conjure up at least one that brings you peace and joy. Beloved, breathe deep the scent of love as long as you can and keep it safe if your heart and mind. Especially the way the world is today we all need the scent of love to help us along the way.

Beloved, have a lovely…
