Good day Beloved,
I trust this day finds you well. The other day I saw a piece of art that I thought was pretty cool. From a distance it appeared as one thing but upon close up inspection I found it to made up of upcycled pieces of other artwork. That is the current terminology is it not, upcycled.
Too me it seems to be much simpler than that. To me it is just using what you have at hand and not wasting anything. I have been known use pens that have been tossed to make art from the bit of ink left in them and markers too. Making candles with the ends of crayons. I have seen beautiful mosaics made from broken and discarded pottery pieces.
Take the nose to tail “movement”. To me that is not a movement but rather simply a way of life. When I was growing up nothing was wasted. Every part of an animal intended for food was used. Patches were patched if need be. Quilts made from clothes no longer wearable. Vegetable peels were used to feed the animals and so goes the cycle. A while back I was watching a cooking show and they “introduced” the root to stem idea. Meaning simply to use every part of the vegetable and to waste as little as possible. Take beets for instance, the green leafy part is as edible as the root pulled from the ground, carrot greens are also edible. Pea tendrils are also tasty.
I do digress, I was speaking about art. One of my favorite candle holders was crafted from a dead piece of grapevine. We had a habit of making Advent wreaths from weaving grapevine together in my house. My birds have perches made from branches pruned from my trees. You get the idea, waste as little as possible. I have done some fabulous art from flower pollen and grapes from my back yard and mulberries from my trees.
Reduce, reuse, recycle. How many times do things need to be said before we the people grasp what is being said? Seems to me that so much in our modern society is designed to be single use and then added to the trash heap. Sometimes that is the good and right thing to do, sometimes not.
Beloved think before you toss, yeah. That is all I ever really encourage you to do is to think…
Have a lovely…
