Hello Beloved,
Here we are again. Every week around Wednesday or Thursday I think about not writing a post for the coming Monday. It is difficult for me to write when I am not able to tap into my usual sources of inspiration.
I’m sure you have noticed I am able to tell myself to just get over myself and write a post. You know there are a few phrases that I just really dislike. “Go for it.” “Knock yourself out.” “Let it go.” “Get over it.” I really, really dislike these phrases. My first impulse is to get snarky and smart off to those saying these stupid phrases.
Instead, I bite my tongue and ignore the phrase as much as I am able. I do not know where this intense dislike for these phrases comes from. I suppose it really doesn’t matter.
I think what I would like for you to take from this post is to think before you just open your mouth and let words fall out that are as unhelpful as these. What may be meaningless platitudes to one may be triggers to others.
Please try to think about what you are about to say before you let it out of your mouth. I can not tell you how many times I read what I put in this post before it gets out of the draft phase.
First time around I just write what I’m thinking and then I go back and find more appropriate ways of getting my point across.
Next time someone asks you a question, suppress the urge to say, “Go for it”. Try something different like “yes please” or “thank you, that would be nice”. You are a smart person, use your words not your habitual defaults.
Beloved, have a lovely…
