Good Day Beloved,
A while back I was half heartedly listening to a TV show while doing some chores around the house and this phrase struck me. “We are all just a feather on the breath of God.”
Have you ever played with a feather by blowing on it from underneath trying to keep it afloat and to a goal? It makes for a good little baby shower game or a kid’s party game.
It set me to thinking about how we as people want so much to control our lives and our worlds. Yet like feathers we get blown about seemingly without rhyme or reason. Why is it so hard for us take the blinders off and see a bigger picture? We get so wrapped up in our own small windblown worlds that we are not able to see the bigger picture and the eventual goal that we are being blown towards.
Sometimes we try to stop ourselves in the windstorm by tying weights to our ankles. We may not even realize we are doing this. It is only when somehow the weights and blinders are removed that we are freed to fly and see the goal that God has intended for us to reach.
I speak from experience when I say this about the scariest things you can do. When we relegate ourselves to a small, locked room long enough we become comfortable there. The idea of pushing open the door and stepping out is terrifying and yet exactly what we need sometimes.
I know I find it much easier to just stay where I am and not push. Beloved here is the part where I ask you to do something.
Join with me and work to cut the weights from our ankles and the blinders from our eyes so that we may more clearly see where we are headed. Not easy I know, but still a worthy goal for us to chase.
Beloved, take a deep breath and have a lovely…
