Honor the Fighters

Good day Beloved,

Today is the day on the calendar when we are supposed to remember and honor the fight and the work that Martin Luther King did on behalf of people of color.

Let me admit something, I did not even see a person of color until I went away to college. You want to know what my reaction was? NOT, you must be lesser because your skin is different than mine. Rather oh cool, someone different, I wonder what we can teach each other?

No matter how long I live I will never understand why people think they are better than anyone else. No matter what your circumstances you are not BETTER than, just DIFFERENT. Different is good. Life would be pretty sad if everyone were alike.

I am grateful that there are people like MLK who are wired to fight for what is right. Regardless of what name you call your G-d, what color your skin is, or what language you speak, you have something worthwhile to contribute.

The history of humankind is full of people who have stood up to the powers that be to make things right. Sadly, the need for fighters will never leave us. There will always be someone who wants to put themselves on a pedestal and try to make everyone believe they are better than.

Here is to the fighters. To the ones who put themselves out there to make things better for others. We would all be the poorer if not for you. You are much needed and much loved.

Next time you see someone fighting for those who are not able to fight for themselves, thank them. The world would be a much sadder, bleaker place without the fighters.

Blessed be the fighters.

Beloved, blessed be…
